Weis Markets offers tips and recipes to make weekend celebrations pop

With July Fourth weekend approaching, most Americans are planning their menus and preparing for festive summer barbeques. To help customers make party prep easy, Weis Markets is sharing some simple tips to help make their Independence Day parties as spectacular as the fireworks they’ll view that night.

“The July Fourth weekend is the ultimate summer holiday for family gatherings,” said Dennis Curtin, Director of Public Relations for Weis Markets. “It’s also a great time to take advantage of the freshest and largest variety of produce with so many fruits and vegetables coming into peak season in the summer months. We stock our produce departments very well in anticipation of our shoppers’ needs. For example, we’ll sell approximately 75,000 watermelons alone this week.”

Another top seller this week will be ground beef, as shoppers serve up their favorite burgers. “If it grills, it sells. Ground beef is by far one of our biggest sellers during the week leading up to the Fourth of July,” said Curtin. “We expect to sell 350,000 pounds across our 165-store chain. That’s more than one million burgers!”

To help you prepare delicious Fourth of July fare, Weis Markets offers the following tips:

  • Grill Your Fruit: With the freshest produce available, it’s a great time to try grilling fruit. Grilling allows the fruits’ natural sugars to caramelize and provides an intense, irresistibly sweet flavor. Choose fruits that are ripe, but not too soft. Watermelon and pineapple are excellent choices to throw on the grill and compliment other grilled fare, such as burgers and chicken, well.
  • Red, White and Blue Your Dessert: Don’t bring any old plain baked good to the party. Bring a festive, red, white and blue-themed treat. Flag cakes, patriotic parfaits and shooting star cookies are sure to be the center of attention, if not the centerpiece of the table. Get creative with blueberries, strawberries, sprinkles and whip cream to carry the red, white and blue theme through.
  • Gourmet Your Burger: Give a boost to the traditional burger and go gourmet by adding ingredients that will both enhance flavor and make burgers juicier. Try our recipe for Mushroom Blue Cheese Burgers and save on ingredients with the latest round of Facebook Exclusive Coupons (good through July 6).  For more burger recipes, check out https://www.weismarkets.com/recipes-meals/.
  • Shop Pre-Made To Save Time: If you’re tight on time, visit our bakery, produce, deli and meat departments for a wide selection of fresh, quality pre-made items. Fresh cut fruit, prepared salads, marinated chicken, pre-made beef patties, and freshly-baked cookies, cupcakes and cakes are all available to help save you time.
